What do you do when retirement arrives, your wife walks out and the only thing standing between you and a second chance is your complete inability to dance?
After years of routine and passivity, Juan suddenly finds himself without a job, without a partner and with absolutely no rhythm. Determined to win her back, he steps onto the dance floor, where every awkward move pushes him beyond the life he thought he knew. Between bruised pride, clumsy lessons and the challenge of starting over, Juan may discover that learning to dance is about much more than following the beat.
Because sometimes, the hardest step… is the first one.

Después de años de rutina y pasividad, Juan se encuentra de pronto sin trabajo, sin pareja y sin una pizca de ritmo. Decidido a reconquistarla, se aventura en la pista de baile, donde cada movimiento torpe lo obliga a salir de la vida que creía conocer. Entre el orgullo herido, las clases de baile y el reto de empezar de nuevo, Juan quizá descubra que aprender a bailar significa mucho más que seguir el compás.

Gilberto González Penilla is a Mexican filmmaker and graduate of Mexico’s Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica. His debut feature, Los Hámsters, received the Press Award at the Guanajuato International Film Festival. His follow-up, Amores Incompletos, earned four Diosas de Plata nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Editing. His documentary Conversaciones de un matrimonio was nominated for an Ariel Award. Bailando Solo marks his third feature film.
With this new comedy, González Penilla turns an empathetic eye toward everyday life, exploring loneliness, routine and the search for love through the gentle humor of a man learning how to begin again.
Gilberto González Penilla es cineasta mexicano y egresado del Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica. Su ópera prima, Los Hámsters, recibió el Premio de la Prensa en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Guanajuato. Su siguiente largometraje, Amores Incompletos, obtuvo cuatro nominaciones a las Diosas de Plata, incluyendo Mejor Película, Dirección, Guion y Edición. Su documental Conversaciones de un matrimonio fue nominado al Premio Ariel. Bailando Solo es su tercer largometraje.
Con esta nueva comedia, González Penilla observa la vida cotidiana con cercanía y empatía, explorando la soledad, la rutina y la búsqueda del amor a través del humor entrañable de un hombre que intenta aprender a empezar de nuevo.
