LOS ANGELES, CA—May 20, 2015—DishLATINO and Cinelatino proudly announce the winner of the “DishLATINO and Cinelatino Audience Choice Award” of the 2015 Hola Mexico Film Festival, the premiere Mexican film festival in the U.S. that took place in Los Angeles rom May 8-17, 2015.

Anthony Lucero’s ‘East Side Sushi’ received the most audience votes to win the “DishLATINO and Cinelatino Audience Choice Award” and will receive a cash prize on behalf of DishLATINO and Cinelatino. East Side Sushi introduces us to Juana, a working-class Latina single mother who strives to become a sushi chef. Forced to give up her fruit-vending cart in order to find a more secure job, Juana lands a position as a kitchen assistant at a local Japanese restaurant. She eventually attempts to become a sushi chef, but is unable to because she is the “wrong” race and gender. Against all odds, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, determined to not let anyone stop her from achieving her dream.

“As the leading Spanish-language movie channel, we are proud to help support the incredible talent and film production in Mexico by presenting the HOLA MEXICO Film Festival’s Audience Award with our partners at DishLATINO,” said James M. McNamara, Chairman of Cinelatino. “We congratulate Anthony Lucero and all of the filmmakers affiliated with the 2015 Hola Mexico Film Festival.”

In its seventh year, the 2015 edition of HMFF in Los Angeles featured a collection of the best recent narrative and documentary feature films by renowned Mexican filmmakers. This year the festival was comprised of twenty-two films and was divided into five film sections: Hola Niños, Documental, Mexico Ahora, Nocturno and Nuevas Voces.

“We are grateful for the continued support of DishLATINO and Cinelatino, our two presenting sponsors of the Hola Mexico Film Festival,” said Samuel Douek, Director and Founder of the HOLA MEXICO Film Festival. “The Audience Award is a great way to get the audience involved in the process of recognizing the great work of these talented filmmakers.”
