LOS ANGELES, CA—June 20, 2017—DishLATINO and Cinelatino proudly announce the Mexican documentary ‘Tempestad’ as the winner of the “DishLATINO and Cinelatino Audience Choice Award” at the 2017 Hola Mexico Film Festival, the premier Mexican film festival in the U.S. that took place in Los Angeles from June 7-11, 2017.
Directed by Tatiana Huezo, ‘Tempestad’ received the most audience votes to win the “DishLATINO and Cinelatino Audience Choice Award” and will receive a cash prize on behalf of DishLATINO and Cinelatino. The documentary tells the emotional journey of two women victimized by corruption and injustice in Mexico. Their voices echo across the landscapes, highways and military roadblocks from north to the south of Mexico to convey how violence has taken control of the lives, desires and dreams of many living in the country today. The film explores what it means to find emotional strength in the face of violence, injustice, and helplessness.
“Cinelatino, the leading Spanish-language movie channel in the U.S., is proud to support Mexican cinema by presenting the Audience Award with our partners at DishLATINO,” said James M. McNamara, Chairman of Cinelatino. “We congratulate Tatiana Huezo for her exceptionally moving piece and are honored to celebrate all the incredible talent and films at this year’s Hola Mexico Film Festival.”
“Our support of the Hola Mexico Film Festival stems from our commitment to driving a cultural connection through entertainment, and we are proud to join our partners at Cinelatino in presenting this award,” said Alfredo Rodriguez, Vice President of DishLATINO. “As we continue to celebrate people who work hard to achieve their dreams, we want to congratulate Tatiana Huezo and all the filmmakers represented at the festival. ¡Sigue Haciéndola!”
In its ninth year, the 2017 edition of HMFF in Los Angeles showcased a collection of the best recent narrative and documentary feature films by renowned Mexican filmmakers. The festival was comprised of twenty films and was divided into four film sections: “Mexico Ahora”, “Nuevas Voces”, “Documental”, and “Nocturno”.
“DishLATINO and Cinelatino have been the presenting sponsors of the Hola Mexico Film Festival since we first launched in 2008, and we are extremely grateful for their continued support,” said Samuel Douek, Director and Founder of the Hola Mexico Film Festival. “The Audience Award acknowledges the great work of the talented filmmakers here at the festival and we’re happy to recognize the beautifully crafted documentary ‘Tempestad’ as this year’s winner.”
